Linux Newb Question

Hello,

Just some questions, maybe you guys will be able to help.

#I have BT5 running in VMware Player. But i try to set the visual settings to 1920x1080 and i get it to work, but when i reboot the taskbar is cut off short. I do the Panel tool box>more settings>maximize panel; but it doesn't expand correctly, it leaves all my widgets on the far left and i cant see the pages i have open.
-- So how do i fix this?
-- Is it normal for BT5 to boot in a 600x800 (or w/e it is its small) and when you log in for it to set as 1920x1080?

##When i play around with the graphics settings, including the theme and how it behaves like animations and such, it stops all effects and makes my terminal have a opaque background.
-- How do i fix this so that i can have my desktop effects? (It doesn't let me reactivate them, says something is using it and when i manage to activate it says it couldn't initialize the effects).


Other than that Linux is extremely frustrating.

Delete and re download BT5, the settings should automatically expand, I would say use VMWorkstation, there are tons of videos on how to get the demo version to the FULL version via just copying some files into the directory. Thats what I use and it auto screen res` for me. XD

Yeah well I'd love to try that but i fear i already have. 6 Times, i finally got around to installing the vmware-tools *correctly* so basically now i can re-size the screen, but that's not the worry...anymore.

Either way i suppose this should be normal after all i am running Linux virtualized and it doesn't have the same interaction as it would if it where installed locally on a HDD.

Well I guess my questions have been answered. I was informed earlier this is normal and to be expected, especially with virtualized OSes.

I wouldnt give up, are you running BT5R1 or just BT5?

Im assuming you downloaded the GNOME... hopefully 32bit.

I didnt have to install the VMware tools. TBH the screen should resize to the correct param without you doing ANYTHING at all. Thats the way they designed BT5.

Yes BT5R1, KDE 64 BIT

On 8 Core i7, 12GBs RAM

4 Cores for VM Linux, and 4 GBs RAM.

AHHHHHH see you need to DL the 32bit for VMware. IDK why but VMWorkstation isnt set up to work well with the 64 bit. Sucks I know, try running the 32 bit on vmware should automatically expand it for u XD

AND i forgot to add you need to run the GNOME on VM, when you open the file after the download your going to just double click the 2.06 KB file titled VMware config.

Oh alright. Sucks that it cant run it 64 bit correctly. I will download the GNOME version later and install that in the virtual machine. Hopefully that works, and solves some of the display issues i was having previously.

Now which desktop invoriment of BT are we talking about? KDE or GNOME?

His last post he said he was running GNOME, the issue comes in with that darn 64 bit, its having a lot of issues, and if he really is running VMWare its the main reason, vmware just recently came out with an update maybe it got fixed but I know for the longest time 32 bit was the most reliable.
