metasploit??

Does anyone know why when doing a metasploit reverse TCP the handler payload takes FOREVER to load? its almost like its lagging to the make/gets stuck. it makes progress, but only by like .08 percent per minute... seems maybe something is wrong? the lhost rhost lport rport and payload should be correct but maybe there is some kind of setup or config that needs to be done first.
